TfL have announced plans to consider a cable car scheme to run between the Greenwich Peninsular and Royal Docks, linking Olympic venues. Hong Kong, New York, Barcelona, Cologne, Lisbon and Singapore all already sport cable car systems and show that they can work – both for practical day-to-day use, and as tourist attractions. TfL has announced proposals to remove the Western Extension of the Congestion Charge by 24 December 2010. The Mayor had previously pledged to drop the CCharge extension during the election – a promise which has since been twice delayed. Click the headline to read on.
Lost in the election froth was the news that the Mayor has taken ownership of Tube Lines (and its debt) for a reported £310m. The system, which cost over £500m to set up had drawn scorn from across the political spectrum.
The take-over deal was apparently prepared several weeks ago, but could not be made public due to purdah.

Airlines have been testing the effects of the cloud on their planes. A BA test appears to have returned without issue. Similar results were found by KLM.
It is hoped that air travel will recommence from Scotland and northern England from 7am today.
